my path to YOGA
My name is Mette Ørum and my Path is Yoga. Yoga in its simplicity, but also complexity, the path of mind, body and spirit: Health, joy and freedom to the body and to life. I have been fortunate enough to have been trained by some of the greatest Yoga masters of our time.
I humbly lay that before you and invite you to join me in having the greatest fun, experience the freedom of being at peace in your body and becomming the best version of you as we practice yoga.
In my teens I entered the sacred space of Siddha Yoga and lived in the ashram following Gurumayi Chidvilasananda. The study of sacred text, chanting and meditation was my whole world for several years, as I traveled and lived my life with Gurumayi and the Siddha Yogis. This was the very foundation of my training - the connection to the all pervasive consciousness and it has been the guiding star in my life.
Working with extensive periods of meditation created a deep wish in me to be connected within and yet be present in life at the same time. This was the time I was introduced to Iyengar Yoga. I started the training with Faeq & Corinne Biria in Paris which lead me to study with BKS Iyengar and Geta Iyengar in Pune, India for the following 25 years. And so the knowledge and learning that I had received as a Siddha Yogi, met the profound experience of deepening the practice of asanas ( yoga ) - as meditation in motion. The relief and focus emerging from pranayama ( breathing excercices ) and the new depths experienced in meditation that came from adding this training to the teachings I received, created a state of being present in the body and fully connected within.
I was blessed to be taught by BKS Iyengar and his daughter - Geeta Iyengar. The teachings of therapeutic yoga from Geeta is very much still with me. Her contribution to women and focus on the female yogi is a daily inspiration.
Along with the still nurturing of my training as an Iyengar® yoga teacher, I studied with the Ayurvedic physician Dr. Vasant Lad. A truly humble and conscious teacher I followed for years. He taught me in the extensive knowledge of the Ayurvedic tradition and helped me deepen my intuitive approach in sensing the physiological, mental, and spiritual state of my students.>
Although this was my training and foundation along with the companionship and inspiration of other yoga teachers, my foremost profound teachers has been the many people passing through my yogastudio - their challenges, their paths in life and their contribution.
As I thank my Guru, mentors and teachers, I thank all these yoga students of past, present and future, and welcome you all to Yoga!
Namaste, Mette Ørum
